The first World Forum Against Drugs ever will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, September 8-10 2008. Main theme for the conference is One hundred years of drug prevention.

Speakers at the conference will be some of the most prominent people in the world in the field of anti-drug work.

World Forum welcomes individuals and organisations campaigning to achieve a society free from the abuse of illicit drugs.

AIMS
World Forum creates an opportunity for people from all around the world working against illicit drugs, particularly at grass root level, to exchange ideas and share experiences on how we all can develop methods and move forward to the visionary goal of a world free from drug abuse.

World Forum supports and is guided by the UN narcotics conventions (1961, 1977 and 1988), the UN Convention on The Rights of the Child and the resolution resulting from the 1998 UNGASS-meeting.

World Forum regards the non-medicinal use (abuse) of narcotic substances as a severe public health problem and major problems for society.

World Forum concludes with the passing of a resolution to be sent to UNGASS 2008/09. The resolution will convey the strong popular support that exists all around the world for the UN’s narcotics conventions.

World Forum marks the start of a global network of organisations united behind the UN’s narcotics conventions.


INCB president to WFAD
Professor. Hamid Ghodse, President of INCB, The International Narcotics Control Board will give a keynote speech at the World Forum Against Drugs Conference.

Prof. Ghodse has been involved in international narcotics policy for a long time. He was first elected to the INCB board in 1992, and the following year he was elected president. The address will be given Tuesday morning.

The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) is the independent and quasi-judicial monitoring body for the implementation of the United Nations international drug control conventions. It was established in 1968 in accordance with the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961. It had predecessors under the former drug control treaties as far back as the time of the League of Nations.
